I turned 50 last October. Now I have to honestly admit that I ran into age 50 the way someone not paying attention runs into a wall. Smack. Ouch.
I actually did see it coming. I must have. I have made a lot of changes in the last few years and they were all in preparation for that birthday. How else to explain remarrying after a decade of single parenting (still ludicrously happy by the way) and ex-husband loathing (It’s ok he’s quite tame now). What else would explain leaving the job I’d had for over a decade to do something bigger and better or my decision to return to school? Time was running out on me and I had to take action before these things were no longer options.
I decided to start this blog because I think my friends and family might get sick of hearing about it otherwise. I know there are others out there (you know who you are).
This blog will be about being 50 and it will be about me being 50 (so look for posts about the things that keep me sane like my garden, kayaking, occasional bursts of cooking and family).
It’s important to hear about other peoples experiences with this age (and beyond) so please do comment. The first real topic is coming soon.

Hi – in response to your post………
I came across your blog while tag surfing and found that a lot of what you say resonates; I hit fifty in January of this year.
Loved the photo of your garden and am envious of your healthy hostas. I have around forty-five different hostas, in pots, most of them looking like lace doilies this year because I didn’t carry out my usual spring maintenance.
Due to all the rain we’ve had recently in south-east Englandshire, my garden is actually looking rather good just now. Photos will eventually be posted on my blog once I find the cables that allow the technology to happen.
